Devil's Kitchen in Lassen Volcanic National Park

Devil's Kitchen is the second largest geothermal area of Lassen Volcanic, located near the southeastern corner of the park. The shortest hiking distance to it is 3.4 km (2.1 miles) from the Warner Valley trailhead along Hot Springs Creek. This trailhead can be reached by car via the southeastern side entrance near Chester, but not from one of the the main entrances on roads through the park.

The eastern section of Devil's Kitchen is closed to access. Nevertheless, with the help of binoculars or a long telephoto lens some interesting impressions of steaming springs near Hot Springs Creek can be caught.

In the central part muddy hot springs, fumaroles and small mud pots are to be found. The spring on the following photo shows floating pyrite particles, just as East Pyrite Pool at Bumpass Hell does.
