Þeistareykir, Painted Creek Group
Scattered along a shallow creek west of Þeistareykjargrundir Group and south of Þeistareykir hut, muddy hot springs, deep mud pots and some fumaroles form the Painted Creek Group. It adjoins the road and is easy to find and to enter.
The picture of Spring Ptc 2 provides a good view over the colorful creek and the muddy-blue collecting lake in the distant center of the valley.

Other springs of the group appear quite similar as shown below.

There are several deep and quite active spouting mud pots in the group, whose bright gray emissions exhibit a stunning contrast with the thermally altered orange-red soil around.

Among the fumaroles one with lots of powdery sulfur on top of the vent is specially worth mentioning. This view reminds of history, when the Danish king used Þeistareykir for sulfur mining to produce gunpowder.
